PONV Risk Factors
The incidence of PONV increases with certain surgical procedures; as well as certain factors including:
- anesthesia-related
factors (type of pre-medication and anesthetic
agent)
- female sex
- younger age, with children being at greater risk
than adults
- obesity
- having gastrointestinal disease or conditions
However, learning the causes
and investigating the treatment options available
to you, is a first critical step towards better control
of nausea and vomiting.
If you are suffering from nausea and vomiting following
your surgery, talk your doctor, nurse or pharmacist
and ask about treatment options that can relieve your
symptoms.
